Why we built Spliz: the end of "you owe me"

Tracking expenses is not enough. Spliz actually settles balances, in seconds, in USDC on Base, no manual transfers, no follow-ups.

Everyone knows the moment. Dinner with friends, a weekend in Lisbon, the apartment share. Someone pays, the rest say “we’ll square up later”… and nothing happens. Three months later, nobody remembers who owes whom. The balance sleeps in an iPhone note. Tension creeps in quietly.

We built Spliz to break that loop. Not another app to track expenses, there are plenty. An app that actually settles them, in seconds, without follow-ups, without manual transfers, without copying IBANs.

The real cost of “you owe me”

The problem was never the math. The problem is the moment that comes after. You get home from a trip with a clean spreadsheet. You send a transfer, a Telegram nudge. Three people pay you back instantly, two promise “tomorrow”, one ghosts.

A week later, you remind them. A month later, you give up. The amount gets quietly written off and trust takes a small hit. Multiply by ten trips, twenty dinners, two years of flat-sharing, that’s the real price of “we’ll sort it”.

Our approach: actually pay

With Spliz, settlement is part of the experience, not a chore that comes after. The flow:

  • Create a Spliz, add members (with or without an account, guest mode is built-in), log expenses as they happen.
  • When you’re ready to close, every member approves the balances in one tap. It’s a signed consensus (EIP-712), not an admin deciding for the group.
  • Once everyone’s aligned, the settlement happens atomically, on-chain, in USDC. One transaction, every net balance moves, done.

No manual transfers to kick off. No follow-up DMs. No asymmetric “I paid, you chase” dance. Balances don’t sleep, they settle.

Why USDC on Base

Spliz settles in USDC on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum L2. Three concrete reasons:

  1. No gas to pay.You never touch ETH. Spliz’s relayer sponsors the transaction; you sign, that’s it.
  2. 0.1 % fee, not 3 %, not 5 %. For comparison, your card payment typically costs the merchant 1.5–3 %. We’re ten to thirty times cheaper.
  3. Stable and instant. USDC is a USD-pegged stablecoin. No speculation, no waiting, settlement clears in seconds.

And if you don’t hold any USDC yet, the app integrates SEPA-EUR rails. Enter your IBAN, deposit in euros, settle from your balance. No crypto knowledge required.

Who it’s for

Spliz covers every moment where money mixes: group travel, flat shares, nights out, dinners, couple budgets, collective events. We’ve calibrated the app so it stays simple even when the group grows and the expenses pile up.

No admin, no hierarchy: everyone is equal before the balance. No feature locked behind a subscription either. The app is free. The only cost is 0.1 % at settlement, with a $0.10 floor for small amounts.

What now?

Spliz is live on iOS and Android. The roadmap is public. The community shapes the features on Discord, Telegram and X.

The end of “you owe me”. For real, this time.
